February: Freezing, Thawing, Freezing again
Here are some pics of the week of 2/22/11. It seemed as if everyone was chatting about the amazing sites outdoors. Previous to this day's pics, the day's sun had begun to thaw the snow, then it rained. By night fall, the temperature dropped below freezing and more ice covered the branches. On this bright blue sky day, the ice began to melt off of the trees, producing a most amazing site outdoors. I couldn't wait to leave work to get outside with my camera. Unfortunately, the camera doesn't begin to do the natural beauty justice. As I ran around snapping pics of the sky, the trees, and bushes, a gaggle of geese flew into view. What a wonderful afternoon outside. Join me at Outdoor Wednesdays to view more photos. http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/

Hi, I'm relatively new to BNOTP and have never posted. I do love to decorate and tablescape and since there are no other comments, I thought I would make some suggestions. My first suggestion varies a bit from just the blue and the green, so if you have decided to just use those two colors, please skip the first suggestion. I love blue and yellow on a table. I think that a bunch of yellow daffodils in that dark blue glass vase would be beautiful. I don't have daffodils in my yard, but right now my grocery store has them very inexpensively by the bunch. Yellow tulips would work, but they are usually more expensive and I am assuming that you might want to do the same flowers on all three tables. If flowers are out or unavailable, a bowl of lemons would be just as beautiful. If you don't have other dark blue glass containers, use clear or white on the other tables and you can always add a dark blue ribbon to the vase. Lemons would go in bowls, white or blue and white would be best. If you do lemons and want to include a little green, just stick in a very few green leaves from some bush in your yard. If you went with the addition of the yellow, I would not use the green mats, and I would see how the green candlesitcks, bunny and the green sphere work with the yellow.
ReplyDeleteIf you would like to keep to just a green and blue color scheme, I do think that the pussy willows are too tall for both the vase and for seeing the other people sitting at the table. You could put white flowers with their green leaves in the blue vase to give contrast. I love pussy willows, so if you still want to use them, you could cut them short and add them to flowers, or tie some with ribbon and lay them on the table as a spray, effect. If you are going to do place cards, you could use them to add some additional color and interest to the table. Or, if you aren't assinging seats, I often roll my napkins and tie them with a ribbon and add a tag with a message appropriate for the occasion. You can omit the tag and just use ribbon to tie the napkin, but I have been having so much fun with the tags. I got a scalloped punch from Michael's and some colored paper, and have been making lovely little napkin ties. If you are into rubber stamping, you could do that on the tag, and if you don't want to punch, you could just cut out squares or rectangles. I often do a color with a slightly smaller shape of white on top. Not only do they look like more, but the white is easiest to write on. If you do ribbon on the napkins, you could use the same ribbon on the pussy willows. Again, I go to Michael's and get the very thin ribbon which is inexpensive and use that for the tags and the ribbon ties for the napkins. If your table looks bare, another item that can add some interest is a menu card. These can be typed on your computer using a font of your choice, mounted on a piece of colored paper and put in an inexpensive 4 x6 frame, or just backed with cardboard or foam board. You can put one on each table near the centerpiece. If you do use tags or place cards, use the same colored paper for the menu card. I hope that some of this might be of help, or will in some way send your creative mind in a different direction. When you have all your tables set, please take a photo so you can let us all see how they turned out. I am sure that they will be beautiful. Best of luck, MM
