Pink Skies Saturday!!

Typically our winter morning skies look like this:

Driving to work has been a treat this week in the early morning. The colors in the sky have been so majestic; pinks disolving into lavender. So beautiful.

Rise 'n' Shine Saturday

Don't you love walking through fabric shops? This bold pattern was calling me..RELENTLESSLY.  The printed plaid is called Malaga Orchard. I purchased enough to make a new kitchen curtain and tablecloth. After sewing them, I went to work on setting my new table. Pfaltzgraff Pistoulet perfectly matched the colorful plaids and I was thrilled to finally have the right linen to compliment my old stand bys. In fact, the only new thing is the fabric.

The egg holders were a found at a thrift store. The rooster votives were a clerance item at Yankee candle shop.

Saturdays are Make your own Oatmeal mornings! The old rooster tray, part of a set was found for $1.99. It holds the oatmeal, cran- cherries, brown sugar, and cinnamon together and organized for breakfast. Just before eating, more oatmeal mixings are  added; bananas, sliced strawberries, and chopped pecans. We love uncomplicated on Saturdays.

Chef Jeff in the kitchen with the California Girls!

My husband offered to make his stir fry for dinner tonight. (When he offers, I get out of the way!) The only fresh things growing in Ohio in late February are ICE  CHRYSTALS. However, the Golden State, California, had everything in our produce market this week! The California Girls arrived! Fresh broccoli, snarky onions, sweet carrots, crunchy celery, tender pea pods, and more arrived  and were waiting for "Chef Jeff" to bring them home.  All of these I was also happy because it meant fresh veggies. His method is so good and healthy that I thought I'd follow him around, snap pics , and share with you. When he saw the camera he said, "stay out of the way or no dinner." lol Of coarse I AGREED! He is a good cook and makes several dishes really well, sometimes his measurements are little unusual..but here's the recipe: One Corningware cereal bowl is his measuring tool. The recipe is not fancy, just simple and really appreciated when local produce is not available.
Just  a personal note, we strive to buy regional produce, from local farmers, then freeze or can our produce, but as we all know, it is hard to resist fresh, colorful produce ...The California Girls.

1 heaping bowl each of:
- chopped celery
- sliced carrots

His measurement bowl :)

- broccoli heads
- pea pods
- bean sprouts
- chicken breast cut into 1 inch pieces
1 small chopped green bell pepper
1 small chopped red bell pepper
3 chopped green onions incl stems
1 can water chestnuts
2 pkgs SunBird Stir Fry mix...(nothing complicated)
1 Kikkoman's bottle  of stir fry flavoring to sprinkle on top after cooking.
Fesh veggies in winter, always a treat!

I just realized that he forgot the sprouts, shhhh.Criticism gets women back in the kitchen.

Thank you Sweetie!Did I mention he put in the new sink, tiled back splash and assisted in counter top install.  Best husband ever!

Heat Wok, pour in 1 Tblspoon Oil , add chicken , cook about 6 minutes , Drain pan, add all vegetables, and  2 pkg of Sunbird Seasoning , plus 2 tablespoons of water. Saute apx 5-7 minutes. (Less for crunchy veggies)  Gotta go..dinner is ready! Posting to the best:.

Outdoor Wednesday February..weather

The Groundhog saw his shadow in Pa...However the local hero, Buckeye Chuck, did not! So 6 more weeks or not?! Even our state bird doesn't know what to do...one day, unseasonably warm, then it snows..
This guy seemed confused ..can you see him?
