Happy Easter!  A Previous post Come to the table...

As we get ready to have our friends and family over for Easter dinner, we want our tables to be beautiful for our family and friends. Easter is a great time to add whimsy to the table. over the past several years I , too, have jumped on the Peep fun.

I  feel the need to share that I am a collector of all things inexpensive..goody barns..flea markets..garage sales...based on Spring table theme : more about color

I'm always searching for inexpensive , creative ways to cover the table. This find was so pretty but didn't show in the pics....I used a white cotton sheet for the underside. I found 2 large pieces of decorator ribbon  fabric  used for sheers. It was priced as pennies on the yard at Joann's. I matched up the 2 pieces and you'd have to look to find it!

Bake Sale Ideas for Busy Moms

Need some quick and easy ideas for Bake Sales? Check out some of these ideas, all made in under twenty minutes.

1) Chocolate covered pretzels : candy wafers available online and craft stores just melt in a double boiler and dip! If you find this a popular request, you might consider purchasing a chocolate wafer maker. 

2) Valentines (heart cookie) cookie, remove from box, bake, ice, add sprinkles or better still let the kids help. These came from GFS, a box of 72 pre shaped butter cookies for apx $9.99.

3) Pillsbury sugar cookie dough, found in the dairy, shape , slice cut hole in center place a jolly rancher or any hard candy inside the hole. As the dough bakes the candy and dough will spread and meet. ( best to use Silpat on cookie sheet and plce dough and candy directly on top of Silpat.) 

4) who doesnt love Oreos! Dip them in white chocolate, dry add a heart candy for extra cuteness!

5) When time is still to precious, bakery cookies are great!

Mason Jars

     Reaching for the cinnamon to sprinkle on Sunday's French Toast gave me the idea to share some ideas on using Mason Jars.  Over the years we've stored buttons, matches, tacks, seeds, sewing needles, and even a fallen baby tooth patiently waited for the tooth fairy to arrive.  We 've hung them in the backyard tree , along with babyfood jars, with a votive inside to gently add a little light while we swung under them. Do you remember catching fireflies in them?

    Mason Jars are timeless, treasures that hold little stories all of their own.  Fun fact: They were invented in 1858 by John Landis Mason. While he didn't invent the glass canning jar, he did improve upon it by designing the jar and lid with threads, eliminating the need to seal preserved foods in wax. Thus his jar became known as the Mason jar.

Gifts for the girls : homemade , homegrown lavender bath salts.

Cranberry Basil Jelly, made from cranberry juice and fresh basil leaves were gifts I took to my High School Reunion last summer. The jars were covered in gingham checks, raffia, and old buttons.

Strawberry Jam decorated in the same manner..yellow gingham checks and dots, tied with bakery cord. 

Sliced and ready to eat strawberries. Food prepping made easy and attractive.

Low cal. Vanilla pudding cups topped with blueberries are covered and ready for a gathering. They are great for fridge stacking and travel well to the lake for a picnic. Above the same dessert, lid removed and topper added.

Chai mixes for the college gang's late nite study sessions.

July 4th Family outing, the jam was a hit.
